Band News February 2010

Training Band News

The Training band played two Carols as part of the  Christmas concert last month, and despite a few nerves played very well (and in time!).   They were very smart in their new Polo Shirts which were been bought using the money they raised doing a sponsored walk, thank you to everyone who sponsored them. And thank-you to those who attended the Concert for your support and encouragement.

Caroling collections

The band played at several venues during the Christmas Period despite the weather which was exceptionally cold this year, so cold that their were fewer ‘punters’ than normal.  Four members of the Training band also took part.

Christmas Concert 5th December

Christchurch and Highcliffe Band had their first ever Christmas Concert on Saturday 5th December at All Saints Church, Mudeford.

Members of the newly formed Training Band took part on their first ever engagement. Presidents Jilly and David Hills said, “This will be special night for both members of the Training Band and the Main Band and will be the first of many engagements they will perform together.”

Also joining the band were members from the Mudeford Junior School Choir under the baton of Mrs Desborough. Mr Brian Eastment, Chairman of the Band said

“We are thrilled to be accompanied by a local school choir, which will undoubtedly add to the festive feel of the evening”. Traditional carols and Christmas tunes  put every one in the mood for Christmas.

The band is also welcoming young children to join the Training Band and anyone over the age of 8 years is welcome to come along on Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm (Rainbow Pre-school premises, Lymington Road, Highcliffe.)

The Band

Christchurch and Highclffe Band is a traditional Brass Band playing a wide variety of music from both traditional and popular genres. We rehearse in Highcliffe see Find Us .

We have recently launched a Training Band (see article below) with the aim of both sharing our love of playing and ensuring our band remains strong well into the next century.

Our M.D. is  Lawrence Butchart and  Presidents, Jilly and David Hills from Wessex Band Assoc.

Come and Join us

The Band is always looking for new players young and old to join in the enjoyment of creating music.

On Tuesday May 12th 2009 we launched a Training Band at an open evening at the Band rehearsal base.  We were very pleased with the event with 16 new players arriving and luckily we found instruments for all!

The event was supported by the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr. David Flagg.
